Are We Going to be Okay?

In these days of waking up to real-time data one can’t help but check every morning, I often wonder how our conversations at work, at home, at the grocery aisles start, carry on, and end.

On Monday, when another thing that could go wrong went wrong, our conversations in our household looked like this:

Babe, the virus is spreading. What does this mean for the economy?

The market has crashed. What does this mean for us?

My tone was a little hushed, a little fearful.

Perhaps, the root of all my questions is simply this—Are we going to be okay?

And perhaps, I was not asking the husband; I was asking God.

How do we live then amidst all these uncertainties when we can lose jobs and houses and health and lives and hopes and dreams? Another recession is a possibility, the experts say.

Are we going to be okay?

I find myself going back to this beautiful passage in my bible to remind myself of truths I can depend on and dispel my doubt with.

Yes, I may feel fear about my family’s health and financial security, but I do not want to park my mind on these fears. I do not want the end of my conversations to be a muffled question of doubt.

The truth of the matter is: Our Father is still in heaven. His name is still holy. His will is still being carried out on earth as it is in heaven. It gives me peace knowing these truths and in trusting that God is above all of the issues and troubles of the world.

If you’re feeling a little fearful today, can I invite you to say this little prayer with me?

Heavenly Father, thank you that You are above my fears and worries. Thank you that Your name is above any diseases and any financial crisis that come today. I surrender everything I’m struggling with today in Your hands. Please help me rest my heart on Your protection and love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Are we going to be okay?

Yes, I believe so. Our Father is in heaven.
